An Exclusive Weekend Designed to
Elevate the Way You Show

A rare opportunity to work with accomplished professionals from outside the area, bringing fresh insight and experience to your riding.

The Performance Edge Experience is a premium, small-group weekend for riders who want more polish, more confidence, and more clarity in the show pen. Featuring Johnette Burman, Marcy Starr, and Ben Balow, this immersive experience is built to improve score-improving technique, rider balance and feel, and the strategic details that separate a good ride from a winning one.

With just 5 riders per trainer per session, every session is intentionally small, focused, and high-touch. Add in private lesson opportunities, a live judge’s-eye critique event, and a Monday mock show, and riders leave with more than saddle time—they leave with a sharper standard for how they prepare, present, and perform.

More Than Instruction.
A Competitive Edge.

This is not a one-size-fits-all weekend. It is an intentionally small, high-touch experience designed to help riders strengthen the details that influence confidence, presentation, and performance.

With only 30 riders total and just 5 riders per trainer in each session, every ride is more focused, every piece of feedback is more relevant, and every session is built to move you forward.

Across the weekend, riders will gain insight from elite professionals in rider feel and balance, score-improving technique, and show-day strategy—then put those lessons into practice in a way that makes the learning tangible.

Built for riders looking to elevate their edge in the reining, ranch horse, and AQHA show pen.

Marcy Starr

Riders Coach helping riders improve balance and feel

Marcy has spent over 30 years training reining horses and coaching riders, and she’s known for making the complicated stuff feel simple. Before retiring from full-time training in 2016, she earned roughly $450k in prize money and became the only woman at the time to be Reserve Champion at the NRHA Futurity riding Gunners Special Nite. These days, Marcy focuses on helping riders use their bodies correctly so their horses can actually do their job. Instead of trying to “fix the horse,” she trains riders to communicate clearly through their hands, core, legs, and timing. Her approach creates quick lightbulb moments and way cleaner maneuvers—stops, spins, lead changes, rundowns, all of it.Marcy teaches in a super down-to-earth way, using real-life analogies, pictures, and simple adjustments that riders can feel right away. She’s bold, practical, and obsessed with giving riders tools they can take home and use immediately. She now teaches riders in person and virtually through her program, Rider’s Edge, and hosts live clinics where participants get hands-on coaching and instant results.

Ben Balow

NRHA, AQHA, NRCHA judge | Teaching How to Show

With over 43 years in the horse industry, I have worked on becoming the best teacher I can be. It has always been very important to me that, as I am training horses to be the best they can be, I also train the rider to be the best they can be. I feel it is imperative to have several ways of explaining any given maneuver to help get the point across to the rider for the horse's sake. I have traveled the world as a clinician and judging shows. I feel this experience has helped me immensely in developing a good eye for what is going on with just about any level of riding. I respect and love horses and enjoy teaching. I look forward to being a part of your horsemanship journey.
